Artist Statement

As an activist artist and educator, I am motivated to explore social and political issues in my work, and to be in partnership with the community, in particular with youth.

My work explores politics and activism through art — from imagery and symbols to typography and slogans. Through my work I explore the questions —

How do visuals become part of social culture?

What stories grab our attention?

Whose stories are centered?

I value the power of community engagement and my north star is to create communities of belonging. Through my practice, I hope to inspire members of our community to see how they might incorporate art and printmaking to share their message with the world.

Self portrait, 2022. Non-dominant hand, pencil and watercolor.
